Perhaps ignition coils aren't my friends... I have to sadly update the previous news article that it doesn't seem to be working. I was testing the ignition coil today, and the sparks are of such a low strength that the only thing I could do was partially mess up AM radio reception from two feet away. I know there was no antenna and that affects performance but it just doesn't look like the input of 12 volts at 6 amps is sufficient power. So I am going to save some components, and switch to a new plan: Microwave oven transformers. These things suck in about 5 amps of 120 volts out of the wall. If I can get two and connect them in series I can have 4000 volts, 500 mA. Now that I have three ignition coils though, perhaps I should sell custom bug zappers...I could advertise their superior strength to the puny store ones. |
