Eye doctor I went to the opthalmologist today. The worst part was that somehow I know how to spell opthalmologist without consulting a dictionary. Anyway, it started out with staring into the machine that tries to determine your prescription based on focusing a pinwheel, then I had the "1 or 2" test. Finally, there was a quick check for peripheral vision. I'm now -7.00 in both eyes. Previously I was -7 in the left, -6.5 in the right. At least I'm symmetrical now. Re: Eye doctor 05 June 2003 09:30 YangsterSince I don't know anything about eyes, does that mean you're short sighted? Re: Re: Eye doctor 05 June 2003 16:30 Michael VincentIt's called nearsighted. Yes, that means I can see near, but not far. However I'm bad enough to where I have to wear my glasses all the time. I just tend to hold reading material slightly farther away than most people. Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 05 June 2003 19:30 AcDecManyour vision is horrible! Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 06 June 2003 08:26 YangsterIt's called short sighted in Aussie. Just like you call it the boot and we call it the trunk. Alumium. Aluminium. Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 06 June 2003 16:42 Michael VincentWe call it the trunk too. It's the British who use the term boot. Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 00:27 YangsterEh? Really? OK, bad example. Here's a better one. Fox, chick. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 03:18 Michael VincentI've heard both. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 04:00 YangsterOh, so you Yankees are starting to learn from us Aussies, eh? Hee hee :)! Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 04:14 Michael VincentWell I'm not representative of the general American population. I think some of the books I read at a young age were British, so I have a tendency to spell certain words with the British spellings, most noticeably "travelled." Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 07:24 YangsterWhat's wrong with the way you spelt travelled? Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 07 June 2003 13:27 Michael VincentThe American spelling is "traveled." To spell it with two l's is characteristically British. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 08 June 2003 08:45 YangsterYeh? Hmph! No one says it's Australian. All look down on us coz we're the land down south eh?
Realized, realised. So many like this spelt with z's instead of s'. Really annoying in Word. Color, Colour... Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 14 June 2003 18:20 AndySoftI cringe when I see words like that spelled with an s and not a z. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 15 June 2003 03:00 YangsterIt's vice versa for me. :P Re: Eye doctor 13 June 2003 22:23 AndreyThe American spelling is ' aluminum '. Re: Re: Eye doctor 15 June 2003 03:00 YangsterI was referring to pronounciation... :) Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 17 June 2003 11:58 AndreySo then, ' alumium ' would be the pronunciation of ' aluminum ' or ' aluminium '? Although I don't see how the 'n' can be silent. Re: Re: Re: Re: Eye doctor 22 June 2003 07:08 YangsterNeither can I, but you Yankees are the ones that pronounce it that way... Or maybe you just pronounce the 'n' really softly in Aluminum... |
