New speakers For the first time in my life I now have decent computer speakers. For years I've been living with my CyberAcoustics generic 2.1 system from CompUSA. A month after I bought it, the power button broke so it's been superglued ever since (I use a power strip to turn the speakers on/off). Plus it played a hugely annoying 120 Hz power line hum all the time. These new speakers are Altec Lansing ACS340. Old new speakers actually; they were sealed and stored in some business attic for five years. I just bought them when the business was selling assets to downsize. Anyway, the difference is amazing. No hum, no flatness of sound. I can actually hear distinct instruments now. I've been missing out on that for 7 years. The entire experience is surreal. It's as if another dimension has been added to sound. Re: New speakers 10 September 2005 21:07 slimey_limeyI use headphones or the stereo amplifier on the other side of my room.
Aren't the powerlines 60Hz rather than 120Hz? Re: Re: New speakers 11 September 2005 04:58 Michael VincentYes but the effect ends up as a 120 Hz hum. |
